savannah stage company fall educational tour

They're local! They're talented!! And they want to educate children!!!
Sounds like a win-win situation to me.
The schools gain some much-needed artistic input, disguised as free-lance show-and-tell, and the children gain education, disguised as entertainment.
Their first work will be an original play, titled "Rip Van Winkle: The Musical". You already know my fondness for musicals, as I have backed not one, not two, or even three - no, keep counting!
But this is, I believe, the first musical geared toward children.
So, sure, that warrants a Benjamin for the kitty.
Me? No, I don't have any children of my own to benefit from this endeavor.
No, I sure don't.
But I do have nieces and nephews who are still in school. I also have great-nieces and great-nephews who will be blessed by this talented troupe.
With any luck, my schedule will even allow me to see the live performance of the show!
However, at the very least, I'll have a dvd of "Rip Van Winkle" to enjoy at my leisure.
And my name will be associated with the show as a backer.
Woohoo!

Greetings from Savannah Stage Company!

We are a new, non-profit, professional theatre serving the Savannah community. Our mission is to serve the audiences of Chatham County through brave, imaginative storytelling that engages and inspires. Part of fulfilling that mission is providing top-notch theatre for young audiences in order to develop our future audience. This fall, we’re kicking things off with an educational tour to local schools and libraries in Chatham County. We’ve written and composed an original production called Rip Van Winkle: The Musical based off the short story by Washington Irving.

We saw that you’ve recently funded other theatre productions in the Savannah community and we wanted to ask you to take a minute to visit our Kickstarter and consider giving. Your gift will greatly impact the lives of students in our community and jumpstart a brand-new wave of intelligent, thoughtful theatre for young audiences in Savannah for years to come. No amount is too small. Thank you for partnering with Savannah Stage Company and best wishes to you!

Dear Fliss,

I wanted to take a minute to send you our sincerest thanks from Savannah Stage Company. Our Kickstarter campaign was successfully funded and we could not have reached our goal without your help. Your donation will go far to make a huge impact in the lives of children and in the community. We are so excited to serve the Chatham County area with our art and bravery. None of this would have been possible without your support.

Things are movin' and shakin' at Savannah Stage Company right now! In the past few weeks the script for Rip Van Winkle: A New Musical was completed, design meetings were held, and this afternoon we have our first production meeting where designs will be presented. We've also decided to extend our educational tour for the full 2012-2013 school year. Savannah Stage Company's website is in the works so be on the lookout for that soon. This is only the beginning and we can't wait to share this journey with you!

Wishing you many thanks and a thousand well wishes,
