god help the girl - the musical film
Wow. As Christopher Walken might say, "Wowsie Wow Wow!"
A musical, that they want to film, in England! I just may have to make some travel plans, y'all, so I can see it live on the stage first, then watch it over and over back home.
You know it!
So, I put some serious money toward this project. Serious money. Then again, when you're making something on such a grand scale, as this will be, serious money is needed. Like, one hundred thousand US dollars.
When all is said and done, I'll be the outrageously proud owner of not only the special kickstarter edition of the film on dvd, and the T-shirt, and the movie poster, and have my name in the credits, but I'll also have this sweet enamel pin to wear about.
Oh, yes, and a postcard from the writer of the musical, Stuart Murdoch. Perhaps you've heard of him? I had not, but he's a musician with the band Belle & Sebastian. No, I hadn't heard of them, either, perhaps because they were across the Atlantic Ocean and not rock and roll.
That said, they're both on my radar now. They should have been before. Apparently, B&S have contributed to the soundtracks of several movies I enjoy, like "Forgetting Sarah Marshall", "Juno", "The Devil Wears Prada". Small world, right?
Speaking of such things, guess who will be producing "God help The Girl"? Barry Mendel! Him, I have heard of, mostly because of his association with some very good movies I've enjoyed. Here are a few: "Rushmore", "The Sixth Sense", "Unbreakable". Those were three of his first efforts. For him to be involved, this is going to be big.
I am so proud to be part of this.
It's only about halfway through its funding efforts right now, with almost a month remaining. Then this summer adventure of a boy and a girl and a girl, in the youth of their lives, can start living on its own power.
Wowsie Wow Wow!

Update #8

Nearly half way! More rewards...
Hey Kickstarters!
A little update as we hit the halfway mark in the campaign.
Stuart is off taking walks around the City and the neighboring countryside, his last chance to daydream on the script for a spell. Meanwhile, we continue meeting candidates for Eve, James and Cassie, and we’re talking to cinematographers, considering production designers, just getting more specific about the choices we’re making about each aspect of the film.
We’re also really riding a wave of momentum from our trip to London, where people were all quite receptive. We can already say for sure that the film will have excellent distribution in the UK. Of course, we want it to have excellent distribution the world over, and with Hanway behind us, hopefully it will. Still, it’s nice to know as a start that in its home country, it will be very well tended to. More on that soon.
On our Kickstarter drive, we’re hitting the back stretch, as they say, and you’ll notice we’re stepping up adding new prizes. We have a long way to go, so we’re hoping some of these interest. We’ll keep scratching our heads, too, so keep in touch. Over these final weeks, the fur will fly!
By the way, if you’re in the UK and happen to be listening to Radio 4 between noon and 1pm Monday, Stuart and I will be on talking about the movie, Kickstarter, etc.
Pardon if it’s repetitive, but I do want to continue to express our gratitude. Our little film seemed an unlikely fantasy at first glance. As recently as six months ago, it still seemed a long shot. For us, Kickstarter, aptly named, turned the tide, the first domino in one of those mind-boggling chains you occasionally see on the evening news. We’re excited you’ll be participating with us, too. Stuart’s particularly keen to have you join us at the premieres, he’s determined those be truly memorable nights.
Regardless, without you, whether Stuart’s ever heard of it or not, we’d be Lost in La Mancha, so thank you.
Barry

We hit the target!
Incredible! Kickstarter went crazy last night in the rush to $100k and we reached it at 23.17 GMT thanks to Soulboyjohn who upped his pledge at the crucial moment. All on the team were refresh button junkies last night!
We are hugely grateful to everyone who has pledged throughout the campaign. We are now way past the target at over $102k. This is no small feat. Your generosity has allowed us to join the exclusive ranks of only 5 other narrative feature film projects who have raised over $100k - see the links below to view those precious few. We're the first EVER UK narrative feature to raise this amount.
We really have achieved something here and a successful Kickstarter campaign has always felt like it would be pivotal in making this movie - so off we go! It's so encouraging to have over 1000 of you backing us.
It's not over yet though, we still have 8 days to go on the campaign so there is plenty opportunity for others to get involved. The more we raise on kickstarter the quicker we can get the film into production so we are more than happy to push on past our target.
This is also the last window of opportunity to become part of making the film happen - there's still the chance to shout action on the first take of the film, get your name in the credits, sign up for an exclusive kickstarter only dvd, receive a god help the crew badge and lots more. These rewards will only be available for the duration of the campaign so get in now if you want to join us.
Thank you all again, we are delighted.
Look out for the 'Still's demo in your inbox on Monday.

A message from Stuart
My dear colleagues, in fact, let me go further, fellow collaborators...
Together we have reached the splendid total of $121,000. You have given us confidence, you have given us a big green light that says 'GO!', and go we shall.
A month ago we thought we had bitten off more than we could chew, but now the producers sleep soundly and the promise of a summer making 'God Help The Girl' is closer.
so THANK YOU.
Thank you for 'getting it'.
I've pitched this film to film companies, to actors, to TV broadcasters, to journalists. I sometimes feel like I'm a child in the headmaster's office trying to make a case for not being punished. But I feel comfortable with you guys. You know what my band has done in the past. Most of you have heard the 'god help the girl' record. You can see where we're heading.
I'd like to assure you that we're not trying to make something that will just grab at the attention for a moment. We're not trying to ram songs into a run-of-the-mill screenplay, and we're not trying to drape some words around a few songs for the sake of making a film. We're following a process that started with a song and wouldn't go away... it is our duty to see it through, just as it was the band's duty to make 'Tigermilk' and 'Sinister'.
And with your help, we shall do our utmost to give satisfaction.
Stuart

I do love musicals and THIS project! I only wish I could be there for the performance in person, as I am sure I would be completely captivated. I shall try to wait patiently...
Faustina
I had not ever copied the reward information for my pledge, for some silly reason or other.
However, as my first niece is now the owner of the DVD, I started looking back at some of my writings concerning GHTG and found my oversight.
As the kickstarter page is still active, let me remedy that right now!
"Pledge US$ 150 or more
For $150 we've made up a special package to include - the exclusively designed poster from the film, a t-shirt, an enamel pin badge, a signed thank you postcard from Stuart and a DVD of the film with the special Kickstarter only disc. Since you are pledging $150 you will also receive a credit in the end roller of the film. All the items will be shipped together on the day of the release of the DVD in your territory so delivery date below is an estimate.
Estimated delivery Jun 2013
103 backers"
I am 1 of 103... yeah, that's pretty sweet!
