friends of the sunset starlet

Well, look at that!
Second column, ultimate listing, in purple.

Fliss

Pretty sweet! And all I had to do was be there when the spontaneous girl needed funds for her film. That's right. Lori Precious sent out her call, via kickstarter, for the money to make her dream film, and I was fortunate enough to find the project in time to help it.
Maybe my position in the listing is an indication of my late arrival to the funding party? No matter! It's all about timing and I was there!
"The Curse of the Sunset Starlet" will become a reality and not a dream.
That's magical.
The script, by Lori and her husband, Steve Erickson, combines elements of magic and mystery with her own use of butterfly - and moth! - wings for portraits, among other works of art.
Hold up, you say? Her husband is the novelist and writer for various magazines such as Rolling Stone and Esquire??? Yes, he is, and he has even written for the New York Times. That particular piece was an interview with rock star Neil Young.
Color me impressed!
But please do so with iridescent, bejeweled gossamer wings...
I do so look forward to this film!

Project Update #17: Progress
Posted by Lori Precious

Hi All

This morning, I woke up to find a large, beautifully patterned brown moth perched on my front door. I think this is a very good omen for Curse of the Sunset Starlet which will shoot in this very house.

Things are moving ahead with Curse of the Sunset Starlet... CGI (computer generated imagery) is now underway thanks to Wild Canary Productions and their excellent team of CGI artists. Tana Roller is now on board as art director (she'll be here any minute to go over the script and the locations) she is very experienced, enthusiastic and totally gets my vibe. Im about 1/3 of the way done with shootboards. Juggling schedules with Joe Pennella the Director of Photography (he shot the new TV show Don't Trust the B**** in Apt 23 in case you caught it--it's really good) Im still working on casting a lead role so I can't lock in a shooting schedule which is frustrating but it is what it is. Im about to make a call to an agent about an actress Im interested in so wish me luck. (Now I know firsthand how movies get behind schedule!) Joe is always working on some TV show--he's in high demand---so his next available window of time is mid-June so that's looking like the date to aim for our filming. That will still leave us time to edit and finish up to submit for the September deadline to Sundance Film Festival.

I have 28 out of 45 g o r g e o u s Sunset Moths all framed and ready to send out to the $60 and above donors....they'll be winging their way to you shortly! I think that is the last incentive to be fullfulled before shooting begins.

Thanks again for all your support!

Project Update #19: We have an actress!
Posted by Lori Precious Like

As of this morning, Oscar nominated (I love saying that) actress SALLY KIRKLAND accepted the role of Grandma Gigi!!! She will be PERFECT in this role. She is excited about the script and her role--she said she thinks the script is delightful and fascinating and Gigi is an intriguing character. She will work within our modest budget---all great news! Here are some of my favorite Sally Kirkland roles....in The Sting, she played Robert Redfords burlesque dancer girlfriend; she was nominated for 1987's Anna; She was in JFK and so many more you just have to look at her IMDB page http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000476/

In other news, I told you that our producer Randy Turrow got booked on a feature so he will stay on in an advisory role. But he replaced himself (thank you Randy!) with a terrific Unit Production Manager, D.Scott Eaton, who has a list of very impressive credits like Jurassic Park, Gossip Girls, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, and a zillion more. So who can complain about losing a great producer when he replaces himself with someone so talented? We've already been talking and working out details (and there are SO MANY DETAILS!) It looks like we will shoot June 15-18 (holy cow---we have a shoot date!!)

Thank you for getting us this far....it's been challenging but very exciting!

Hi all

Had our table read today with all the actors and it went great! Sally Kirkland and Kathleen Wilhoite are dynomite together and really seem related--they even have the same distinctive voice. It was wonderful to hear the script being spoken for the first time. People laughed. They cried. It felt magical. Sally told us stories about getting cast in The Sting ---how Robert Redford put in a good word for her with the director who, she said, usually liked women "with big tits and at that time I didnt" so, despite that uhhh shortcoming Robert Redford was able to convince the director and of course he was right cos she rocks in her scenes as a burlesque dancer and gun moll. Upcoming week we have rehearsals. Mona May and I put together wardrobe for the 2 kids & looks great. Countdown towards Monday June 18th the first shoot day...

Thanks again for all your support :)
