ray harryhausen

Bruce Bowman is a longtime fan of the visual effects created by Ray Harryhausen for the movie world. When Bowman found out the revered man no longer had the puppet of the Phororhacos creature he had created for "The Mysterious Island", Bowman determined to send one of his creations, a resin sculpture of the giant bird.
But first, he wanted to bronze it, to make it more like an award statue.
And to mount it on a wooden base, for more stature.
And to ship it to England, where Mr. Harryhausen lives.
From Oregon, where Mr. Bowman lives.
Fine.
The math showed that he would need $1200. That's a reasonable sum, when you're wanting to acknowledge someone's lifelong talent.
By the time I stumbled upon the project, in the "Ending Soon" listings on kickstarter.com, time was drawing near to the end of possible funding. So, I've thrown a Jackson into the pot, which will earn my name, IN LARGE LETTERS, on the award document being presented to the Englishman.
That's a pretty fair trade to me.

When this project started, I had planned on the presentation letter to be a simple document, probably an Adobe Illustrator template. That idea changed a couple weeks ago when Deb and I wandered into the Black Sheep Bakery here in Portland. On the wall was a series of marvelous pen and ink drawings by local artist Bethany Grosvenor. Most were of various animals, but a couple were hand-lettered sayings. Deb took one look at them and said "We're having her do the letter!" She got Bethany's info and a week later we not only had a letter, but a work of art!

So, Ray will receive not just the Bronze, but a framable piece of art with all the backers names inscribed. And so will you! All of our backers will receive either a high-quality reproduction or a high resolution digital copy they can download.

The Ray & Diana Harryhausen Foundation would like to express their gratitude to Bruce Bowman who gave Ray the bronze he created of the Phororhacos from 'Mysterious Island'. Not only is it very kind of him, but his artwork and craftmanship is outstanding.

Sad news to convey: Ray Harryhausen, at the age of 92, has died. Here's a link for a bio of him: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0366063/bio?ref_=nm_ov_bio_sm

Nice to know two of my favorite films, "Monsters, Inc." and "Corpse Bride", have homages to him.

I am so thankful to have been able to be part of this project.
